The 7th China Taobao Village Summit, themed “New Rural China”, will be held in Huimin of Shandong province from August 29 to August 31, 2019.
In 2009, there were only three Taobao Villages first emerging in China, and since then the number has been on the rise, reaching as many as 3,202 in 2018, with the combined annual online sales amounting to RMB 220 billion. The awe-inspiring growth in the number of Taobao Villages demonstrates its robust vitality. Taobao Villages have proved to play an important role in supporting migrant workers to return home for online entrepreneurship, boosting flexible employment, reducing poverty and vitalizing the rural areas. The success of Taobao Villages has drawn attention from China’s central leadership, local governments, the international organizations, universities and academics.
In 2014, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visited Qingyanliu village in Zhejiang. A year later, in 2015, Wang Yang, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, conducted research on Bainiu village in Zhejiang and Shaji town, all of which are Taobao Villages.
The success story of China Taobao villages is also highly recognized by the international community. On November 3, 2018, Jim Yong Kim, former president of the World Bank, led a team to examine Taobao Villages in Guizhou, during which he tweeted: “I saw how Taobao villages empowered new online entrepreneurs, allowing their young families to come back home and take care of their relatives, while enabling farmers to get a better price for their products…I hope many will learn from Guizhou’s example.”
As the organizer of the 7th China Taobao Village Summit, AliResearch warmly welcomes you to attend the forum and conduct valuable field research in the host county Huimin, which is home to numerous Taobao Villages.
